There are three kinds of looms in 'NISHIJIN' production: powerlooms, handlooms, and handicraft looms. The first two looms can weave patterns using design sheet and a Jacquard.The handicraft looms cannot utilize this system. Therefore, people place the design under the warp and weave over it with the shuttle.

10.Power loom weaving
The Nishijin industry now widely uses advanced technology, including power looms.
11.Hand loom weaving
For the very finest and most elaborate Nishijin weaves, hand looms are still used.
12.Hand weaving
Certain patterns are not made using Jacquard looms, but are woven using a special method unique to Nishijin weaving, in which the weaver plucks the warp threads using his/he nails.
